The BCM team is one of the main participants of the consortium that sequenced the 34 Mb genome of Dictyostelium discoideum. The results were published in Nature on May 5, 2005, and the primary portal to the genomic data is at dictybase.org.

In addition to the six chromosomes, D. discoideum also harbors a linear 88 kb extrachromosomal palindromic element that encodes the genes for ribosomal RNAs, and a 55 kb circular mitochondrial genome.
